Community Engagement

Community engagement facilitates the creativity and discovery that is essential to academic excellence. It also ensures that the University contributes to the vibrancy and sustainability of the communities that encompass it.

The Office of Community Engagement provides students, faculty and staff with authentic engagement opportunities that allow them to interact with the world around them.

Whether your goal is to partner with the University, conduct research, serve in the community or meet a curricular need, there are many opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

Featured Program: Thursday Morning Roundtable

This weekly civic engagement program features experts speaking on local, state and national issues of concern to the Central New York community. Book Buddies Program

The Book Buddies program is a collaboration between the Syracuse City School District, the United Way of Central New York, and M&T Bank that offers the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a local child. Currently, approximately 6% of students in Book Buddies partner schools are reading on grade level by 3rd grade. The Book Buddies program connects Syracuse City School District students in grades K-3 with community volunteers and provides students with a supportive environment to practice reading, helping them become stronger, more confident readers.

If you would like to support this initiative by registering to volunteer to become a Book Buddy, please contact Laurie Black at bookbuddies@unitedway-cny.org.
