​Sociology

Choose from a rich variety of courses that give you the tools to understand, critique, and address structural and social inequalities.

The sociology curriculum will deepen your understanding of a wide range of subjects and challenge you to think critically about the social world. We train students in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and offer courses in the areas of health, aging, and the life course; globalization, immigration, and transnational studies; family, education, and work; and power, capital, and culture.

The degree program is structured in a way to allow you to combine majors and minors and to prepare you for careers in the fields of education, social services, marketing, business, government, healthcare, urban planning, public health, community organizing, and law.


About Maxwell

Study Abroad

Well-known as one of the top international education providers in the U.S.,  Syracuse Abroad  is a longstanding part of the Syracuse experience. With over 100 programs in 60 countries, nearly half of all students go abroad during their time at Syracuse. 

Sociology majors most often go abroad to Syracuse University centers in Florence, London, Santiago, and Strasbourg, and to our World Partner programs CEA Prague, Tel Aviv University, and the University of the West Indies.

Summer programs of interest may include Multicultural London, the Italian Mafia (Florence), Italy and the Italians: A Cross-Cultural Study (Florence), Sexuality in Spain (Madrid), and Sociological Perspectives of Sport (Madrid).
