What are the residence halls like?

There are 21 residence halls on either North (Main) or South campuses. All buildings are co-ed by wing, floor, or alternating room. Most incoming first-year students reside in a split- or open-double room. Upperclassmen may choose from suites, singles, or townhouses on campus or off-campus apartments. Transfer student housing assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more about our residential options.

Can I choose my roommate and specific building/type of room for my first year?

My College Roomie is a user-friendly website that will provide you the opportunity to connect with fellow first-year students and possibly select a roommate before arriving on campus. On My College Roomie, users create a profile for themselves, answer questions about their habits and hobbies, and select attributes to discover what they have in common with other new Syracuse students. For more information, visit the Housing Information Page.

When do admitted students receive their housing assignments?

For the fall semester, admitted students are notified of their housing assignment and roommate in early August.

Is campus housing available for transfer students?

Transfer student housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Does the university guarantee housing?

Syracuse University requires all entering first-year students to live in on-campus housing during their first two years of enrollment. The University is able to fulfill most requests for on-campus housing for upperclassmen. Housing is available to transfer students on a space-available basis.

Is tobacco use allowed in University housing facilities?

No. All Main Campus residence halls, the three Skyhalls on South Campus, and Skytop and Slocum Heights apartments are smoke-free environments.

Additionally, to help ensure a healthy, productive, respectful environment, Syracuse University is committed to a smoke- and tobacco-free campus, effective July 1, 2015.

What is the dining center food like?

Students give it high marks for variety and quality. There are six residential dining centers and on-campus food courts with brand-name restaurant chains. Along with the main entree, students choose from a deli, salad bar, pasta bar, grill, and dessert bar. There are vegetarian options and a Kosher kitchen as well. Many of our academic buildings also have coffee shops or cafes. View more information on dining options.
